Shadow detail is obscured |

When a dark subject appears against a dark background, such as a crow at night, the subject tends to be obscured by the background. To enhance the details, use the Curves dialog box in Photoshop. Choose Adjust from the Image menu and click " Curves" to access the Curves dialog box. |
The Curves dialog box has a straight diagonal line from the lower left to the upper right corner of the graph. If you click your Mouse at a point 1/4 from the top of the line and drag it slightly downwards, the details in the dark areas will be enhanced but white areas will lose tonal gradation and become flat. |

If you want to leave the white areas unchanged, drag the line from about 1/4 the distance from the lower left, and return the line to its original position. |
